A one day course to educate the participant in the role and responsibilities of a Level 1 State Referee.

The Referee is responsible for:
   The technical management of the tournament
   Doing or supervising the draw
   Interpreting the Rules and Regulations
   Deciding on the eligibility of players to enter events
   Deciding on the acceptability of clothing
   Supervising umpires
   Taking any necessary disciplinary action.
 
A Referee is the responsible authority for a tournament. 
 
Along with the Tournament Director or Committee and/or Competition Manager, together, they run the tournament and ensure that all the different factions within the tournament fulfil their obligations. 
 
In general terms, the Referee is responsible for all technical aspects, and the Tournament Director or Committee and/or Competition Manager for matters of presentation, housekeeping, etc.
 
Players are under the authority of the Referee from the time they arrive at the playing venue until they leave it. “Playing venue” means the part of the building which is used for table tennis and its related activities, facilities, and public area, including the car park.
 

The course includes:

Tutorials in court, table and net setup; lighting checks and safety audit

Sitting a written exam.

 

Pre-requisites

Current Level 2 State Umpire accreditation.

Current WWC card.

Thorough knowledge of the  ITTF 2024 Statutes 

Thorough knowledge of the Handbook for Match Officials 

Thorough knowledge of the Handbook for Tournament Referees

Successful completion of round robin result calculations.

Knowledge of placement of seeds and byes.

Successful completion of basic draw exercises.
